BARIATRIC PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS
A pre-surgical bariatric psychological evaluation is required by most surgeons and insurance companies. The goal of the psychological evaluation is to help you better understand your personal adjustment to the changes in your life after surgery, and doctors who specialize in this area recognize that gastric bypass surgery is not only a medical issue, but an emotional, psychological, and life-changing event.
Your doctor wants to make sure that you are emotionally and psychologically ready for the surgery, have the support needed to make life changes after the surgery, and address any stressors that might interfere with your recovery.
After surgery, you might wish to participate in a psychological evaluation or short-term treatment if you are having a difficult time adjusting to your new lifestyle or just want to make further progress in your weight loss goals.
The report is usually submitted to your surgeon within one week of your evaluation, since it is usually the last hurdle you face before you can be approved for weight loss surgery.
EVALUATION FEES AND INSURANCE
Most patients will be able to use their mental health insurance, in which case you are responsible for your co-pay, if any, at the time of your evaluation. Afterwards, we will submit your claim directly to your insurance company.
If your insurance fails to pay, you will be responsible for your charges.
If you do not have insurance, or do not wish to use your insurance for a psychological evaluation, our fee for a bariatric psychological evaluation including the testing, interview and report is $450. |
